WTF? Are they trying to ensure that we all stick with our current hardware and software and never upgrade? Because that's exactly what this type of stuff makes me want to do.

Yeah, usually i support the companies(except of MPAA making my NEW Component Only HDTV worthless), but this is one of those times that warrant a crack. I  my CRT and MS can suck it.

The only upside is that a crack will be released in days following the release of Longhorn.

Ir's rediclous. not 1 but 4 seperate DRM standards, it's like they dont actually want you to be able to run anything that might be remotely possible of being copied.

If a content provider decides they don't want their software (mainly video) to play on a non HDCP compliant monitor (HDMI/DVI) they can either black it out, or down-rezz it.

omfg  what tards in congress passed the law to have this done? they were smart enough to decline the broadcast flag which is a lot more reasonable than this.

I'm sure everyone's looking forward to buying a new monitor. longhorn's a piece of crap anyway...all it is is XP with DRM and a few extra effects and skins, no?

I'll do whatever it takes to make this thing not see the light of day on my PC. and probably by cracks. they can suck my ****. and you bet this will be cracked just like the "unhackable" Windows activation.

I wonder how much the MPAA is paying them to do this. it just shows you how much money they already have and they don't need any more to operate, let alone change the whole world's most popular operating system. I guess they don't realize this only makes me hate them more. If something was made by Google, I probably would pay for it because they are awesome. The MPAA on the other hand is a bunch of d**kwads that deserve what's coming to their face.

I'd love to see the look on Bill Gates's face when this is cracked. "Oh no, guess we'll just have to change the mechanism and have everyone buy new monitors again!"

somehow I don't think this is going to happen. did hell freeze over? we might want to go and check...

The next thing they'll make us do is wear special DRM-encoded contact lenses. I can't wait to get mine so I can watch another s****y Steven Spielberg movie!

Do they plan on offering a free monitor with every copy of Longhorn, equal to or greater than the user's current monitor? I'm not trading my 2005FPW in for some 17in DRM POS CRT.

It said that as long as it has a DVI connection, you'll be able to view "premium" content. This just sucks for those still with CRT's.

You ain't alone. I generally buy good monitors and hang onto them for years. I'm not going to sell my 2005FPW for this crap...bring on the hacks.

That is incorrect. You need to have DVI with HDCP protection, and most PC displays up until this point don't offer this.

Nooooooo. It said DVI or HDMI with HDCP protection. I will choose to interpret that as, If it's got a DVI connection, it'll work in Longhorn. If it's HDMI, it'll work with HDCP protection.

You're dreaming. :p

read it again. . . you're outta luck with just about ANY monitor you buy - today. :p

Whether you?re plunking down money for one of the new ultra-fast LCD displays with 4ms response times or you?re becoming the envy of neighborhood with Dell?s UltraSharp 2405FPW widescreen display, you?re buying a monitor that won?t play nice with premium content in Longhorn.

how do they expect this to fly? i know its microsoft and all that, but this will be the worst selling OS ever if they go through with this.

i too am not a fan of cracks, never used one. but damn straight i will now. thats if longhorn is even worth it. its fast looking like it isn't.

HDMI works. Don't believe me? Try hooking up your PC Firewire port to a cable HD box with HDCP enabled. Watch those channels go to black.
