windows vista 32 to 64-bit

I was just wondering, if i get an upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit windows vista home premium will i have to reinstall all of my programs or will they auto-update with windows?
I know the windows programs will work but i mean more so my games then anything.

I don't think you can do a strait upgrade from 32 to 64. I think it has to be a fresh install.

The games should be fine. I have all my games on a seperate drive and occasionally boot up into different OSes (32 bit XP, Windows 7 64 bit, Vista64, server 2008 32bit) and play them from the same directory. I know steam games dont care.

Yes, it does. I recently found this out when I tried to upgrade my laptop.

You cannot upgrade a 32 bit system OS to a 64 bit OS, If not for a million other reasons the Installer will not allow it.

You will have to boot from the DVD and perform a clean reinstallation. Period.

Go back and reread what he said. Then reread your post. There are two distinct things in his statement that you COULD have been supporting: 1) "strait upgrade from 32 to 64" or 2) "fresh install". My first read through your statement definitely had me thinking you DISAGREED with MBrown, not AGREED.

Oh well. I've been caught in the trap of knowing what I was trying to say (so it made perfect sense to me!) but other folks didn't understand me more than once. I guess I shouldn't throw TOO many stones your way!

The installer does not allow an upgrade, but it is possible to do so if you want to finagle it enough and read random postings found on a google search.

No it does not, there is no 32 to 64 bit upgrade support. Its not possible to 'finangle' it.
