windows validation tool and wsus

One of the other techs I work with insists that we install the windows validation update on all PCs because the rest of the updates wont work. Is this true? I really don't want that thing lingering on our network. We will be setting up a WSUS server to start pushing updates soon as no pcs are currently being updated. Can we skip the geniune adantage thing and just do the updates? We are fully licensed but I still don't trust some microsoft trick on our hospital network. :Q People will see that and freak then flood the help desk.

Now some machines are already prompting as it must of been let in by error. It's not yet installed but the setup comes up at startup. Is it too late for those pcs?
