windows updates wont install

edit, looks like it realy does take 4 hours or more to download a 15 MB update over cable modem...

Trying to install windows updates on my machine and they wont install. the automatic updates screen is frozen at the Installation status:
Initializing installatin...

and the overall progress has not started to count up.

i ran spybot and a norton AV scan so i dont think i have any spyware / virus on my machine.

any ideas why this is? thanks!

also of note, if i go to www.windowsupdate.com it takes an hour or more to even search for updates...

Do you have service pack 2 installed?

i have service pack 2.

it's taking hours, same with the upgrade ti IE7 SP 2, takes hours to make no progress...
