I just rolled by desktop back to 8.1 because it completely butchered my software, drivers and pretty much everything about my pc. My laptop upgraded just fine but my tablet has lost the use of its touchpad and I will probably roll it back as well. When I tried to do a clean install of 10 it wanted a key which is something that Microsoft said it wouldn't require to do a clean install after you did an upgrade in place and activated it.

When did they say that? It will need a key, and you'll get it after the upgrade. Did you look in device manager? Was the trackpad missing a driver?

Sabrewings,

Same thing happened to me on my main workstation... sitting at "copying files 2%" for three hours... Tried it 4 times and gave up...

Upgrade went fine on my laptop (took about 45 minutes).

There are install logs...they might be in C:\~Windows.bt\panther or something?

It's all over the Microsoft windows 10 official website where they q&a it for people so everyone can understand the installation process. My legitimate 10 pro 64 bit installation wanted a key, however I've heard from others that if you skip entering it that once it goes online it will activate itself using the hardware id from the in place activation, provided you didn't change any hardware. I will stick with 8.1 on my desktop and tablet for now since both are working properly again. I will clean install 8.1 on my desktop later on when I swap in my 850 pro ssd and just do it right from the beginning.
