windows update problem, please help...

lately when i go to windows update, it doesn't work, it doesn't scan, and it says theres no updates, yet i haven't installed any updates so i know theres like 70+ updates to do. anyone know why this is happening? ive heard having the wrong date can mess stuff up, but thats ok...anyone know.. and no im not reformatting for windows update

Click on personalize windows update then show catalog. Then you can search for XP updates and install them manually. If your using IE go to tools general temporary internet settings and view objects. Make sure you have update class listed thats the windows update one. If you go to window update click on the help and support link. Use the troubleshooter

Make sure you have ActiveX enabled and functioning. Windows won't update without it.

If its XP then call M/S and get a new activation number. Some of the old IDs were disabled due to piracy.
