i recently received my laptop and i went to the Windows Update site. there's like 50 security updates with a few other things. do i need to update? are there certain updates i might need to avoid?

i know this is a dumb thread but i haven't had too much experience with the more legal things in life 😛

If you had a desktop would you still ask the same question? 😛

Yes, download/install the updates.

Just update the critical ones. I suppose you can browse the recommended ones too just to see which would actually be useful. Patches for mobile devices when you don't have one isn't that useful and is a waste of bandwidth and space.

Every time I download xp does some type of genuine advantage scan and loads more software. Why do I need that?

if you're downloading xp and you run windows update, you may be in a bad situtation...

There was one security update that when using Kaspersky would crash FEAR combat. If the update was uninstalled everything was fine. But for the most part everything is usually an improvement and recommended.

Its sad that in this day and age we still have members asking if they need security updates.

Hint for all future requests regarding security updates: Yes
