check your cd-rom's and HD's master/slave config. i had an old cd-rom and it slowed the loading down.

25 seconds? From power button to full Windows it takes me more than that (I am unsure because I usually leave my computer on all the time) on my dualcore X2 at 2750 but I haven't tried to shutdown the 400million processes that run at startup that I don't need yet. I also have a Raptor as the boot drive and 2gigs of ram so you are doing well.

Startup varies a ton.

Programs running at startup, motherboards, HDDs, all these things & more can affect bootup speed.

"window load"? what does that mean? - a more to-the-point question: how long does it take your machine to go from "off" to "completed desktop"?

25 secs is actually very good. Wait until you have more programs in the Start up and you will start seeing longer boot times.

As noted...

That is pretty good. The more you load, the longer it takes. My corporate laptop takes about 4 minutes start to functioning desktop. The sad thing is, when we handed the laptop with the OS and NAV CE on it to the development teams, it would take about 35s to get to a local profile. Sigh.

Oh, and for the ABMs, a large chunk of my load slowness is talking to a UNIX farm to mount Software repositories ;) (ClearCase and Documentum)

Nope.

I mean 75,000 RPM HD...

Just a "little bit" exagerated to tell him that his booting time was really good.

uhm, who cares. just leave your machine on all day and not be worried about how long it takes to load

25 seconds is awesome from power off to loaded GUI and processes. 25 seconds on the "Windows screen" (with the blue marquee bar) seems a bit too long IMO.
