WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM error

nothing to note happened but,this error
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM when i tried to boot.
i tried win xp reinstall would not install.hdd not found.
during boot it comes up with the above error.
how do i update bios string?which one do i use . i was thinking the scsi controller was bad.
any help would be great.

boot to xp cd choose repair console and then dos copy c:\Windows\Repair\system to Windows\system32\config\system.

The HDD error probably means you need to supply the windows installer with your controller driver. You need to press F6 during the first part of the install process and have the driver on a floppy disk
