"windows support" is going to call me in 3 hours

I need funny ideas to screw with them.

Currently setting up a small VM network with pfsense and windows XP (isolating it completely from my main network) and thinking of just loading up that XP VM with a ridiculous amount of spyware and viruses, and with pfsense I will also throttle the connection so it's bloody slow when he connects.

I will also setup an ubuntu VM in hopes that the program they use actually works, but it probably wont, so I'll have the XP vm ready.

Going to record the whole thing.

Shoot any other ideas you may have.

Be sure to set up your desktop

I don't think they'll do anything until you pay them, so you have to get your lulz while they are trying to convince you to let them at your machine.

"I don't think I have viruses, because I never noticed any problems."
"The error log says I have errors, but I think that's an error."
"I keep my files in the sky, so viruses can't hurt me."

As they describe how you should navigate to the error log (so you can see "proof" that your machine is hacked) keep making mistakes and asking for clarification, and provide running commentary about how you never saw any of this before.

Is that right click? On the red box? Or on the X? It's too small to read. Did the virus put that error on my PC? Why can't I just erase those errors to fix the problem? My mouse has a middle click button, can I use that? Why doesn't Windows tell me when these viruses show up? I have been using PCs for over five years, so don't worry, I can follow directions and I even fixed my modem box by doing a power circuit without calling AOL. Can Best Buy fix these problems because I have an extended warranty there? Could these viruses get in my smart TV? Or did the smart TV give the virus to the computer?

When they called me, I got the first guy so frustrated he passed me off to a "Level 2 priority supervisor" and strung him along for 15 minutes before he couldn't take it any more and hung up.

That could be fun.

Well this escalated quickly. Did a google search for "free cursor" and clicked on a few links. IE6 no longer even loads and Firefox has a bunch of add-ons.

I think just making him run around will be fun on it's own though. For all I know he might not even call back.

I actually had a vm setup already but I ended up trashing it by accident when doing a cleanup.

Boooo they did not call back. If they call now it's too late, I got stuff to do.

Also, I never realized I would run into this problem, but I think one of the fake anti malware programs I picked up might actually be legit.

I'd use Win3.1 in a vm. Actually, I should do that myself. I never really used it when it was current; too bloated. I preferred DOS :^D

I tried win98 but NOTHING works in it, I can't even install flash. Chances are the tools they use will require some of that stuff. Though there is one guy that got it to work, it's quite comical. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LW8_uirkfVk

3.11 would be even funnier though. I need to find a copy of that. Would be great nostalgia too, was the first OS I ever used.

Win3.1 fan, or a reference that it was actually a DOS application? I didn't see much use in it, and it used too many resources. I had a shareware program that let you click a box on the "desktop" to launch an application, and that all I needed for a Windows-like program. Everything else I did from the command prompt.

Make your wallpaper some hideous photo pretending to be you and your GF or family.

LOL that's great.

I put the default XP background upside down and going to ask him if he can flip it back. But I like this better, I think I will do just that.

I need to find more spyware too, but it's starting to look good.

Wow, for fun I did a packet sniff. You should see the traffic all this spyware is producing LOL.

Also some of it is actually going to US government owned IP ranges such as DOD. Rather interesting...

140.10.253.220 is one of them. Did not check every single IP but I'm sure there's more.

Most of it is going to China though. I should probably turn this off for now.
