when trying to download .exe files from sites, i receive this message: "your current security settings do not allow this file to be downloaded" Is there any way to get around this? I don't think it has anything to do with "restricted sites" or sliding that internet security bar around, i've tried both. This problem has occurred several times with different sites, always with .exe files.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Sure. Change your security setting - i.e., lower the standard.

I get a little bar at the top that I can click and download anyways. Never has it completely disabled the download.

In IE go to Tools\Internet Options. Click on the Security tab and scroll down to the Downloads section. Make sure that automatic prompting for file downloads and file download are enabled.
