WINDOWS SHUTDOWN PROBLEM

Senior member
For some reason whenever I shutdown in Windows 98 it always restarts.
I never had this problem before until moved the comp back home.
If I click on SHUTDOWN it restarts, and if I choose RESTART it restarts.
So I can't shutdown unless I do it manually.

Anyone have an idea as to what's up?

thx.

Try creating a shortcut on your desktop with the target box containing -

C:\Windows\Rundll.exe user.exe,exitwindows

This will force windows to shut down. Restart your pc and then see if it shuts down normally.

Perhaps you could try getting the rundll.exe file from a friend and trying that. Make sure you backup the original rundll.exe file first!

I had previously found an article from Microsoft on how to troubleshoot this. Go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base . In field #1, select All Microsoft Products. In field #2, select Specific article ID number, and in field #3 type in Q202633.

Hope this helps!
