windows setup problem

Senior member
when i try to boot off a windows xp cd nnd run setup, it gives me this problem.

"the file acpi.sys is corrupted. press any key to continue"...

once i do, it restarts...

it happens when the blue screen (windows setup) comes up, and it starts to load kernel files and stuff like that, before naything can be done. (all the menus and selections)

help!

btw i run asus a7n8x rev. 2.0

also when sometimes it would say, instead of the error above.

"an unexpected error (536835296) occurred at line 1562 in D:\nt\private\ntos\boot\setup\arcdisp.c"

what the hell is going on? i've never had problem running setup before.

When booting from the cd, after you see "setup is inspecting your hardware configuration," start tapping F5 until you get the message that "setup is unable to something blah blah blah...." Highlight the option STANDARD PC then press enter. Setup will continue.

Once you get into windows you might want to then get all your updates
If you're content with Standard PC, then great - you're done. It may not power off like it used to; might have to be done manually.
If you want to choose ACPI, go to device manager and then under Computer, right click Standard PC and then choose UPDATE DRIVER.

Then select INSTALL FROM A SPECIFIC LOCATION.
Then select DONT SEARCH, I WILL CHOOSE THE DRIVER.
Then you will get your option for ACPI

If not then the file wasn't copied to the hard drive and you'll have to take it from the XP CD.
It's stored in the i386 folder. You will also have to rename it from acpi.sy_ to acpi.sys
Browse to that location, accept the file, then restart when prompted to.
It will find all your hardware again like a new install would then one last time you will have to restart.

Hope it helps. If there's anything else I can do, lemme know...

can someone explain to me why this is happening?

i have a new mobo (asus a7n8x), a new psu (antec 430w), new video card (fx 5500), newer HDD (wd1200jb), the only things that are old in this machine are the cdrom drives and the case.

What CPU, what exact brand/model/speed of memory, what memory voltage, and what memory bus speed are you using? My first suspicion is that you have the memory undervolted and/or out-of-sync with the CPU's bus. Or perhaps your optical drive is going out.

CPU 1600+
memory infineon pc2100 cl2 512mb

i was thinking about my optical drive too, what is your reason of thinking that?
