Windows server 2008 questions

I have the option of getting win server 2008 for dirt cheap due to being student and getting these offers from school. I have never used any kind of server type OS before, but was wondering if something like this can still be used on a normal desktop for day to day usage ( email, browsing, chat, minor games ect)

Should i buy it for cheap to use or toss this idea if i cant use it as a normal OS?

Any input greatly appreciated.

I ran it for a bit as a Work Station ie; desktop and it was fine. You need to tweak it quite abit to get it normal, but it is possible.

Win2K8 is just Vista with different defaults, there's no reason to run it over Vista. And on top of that you'll have issues with some software that checks what version of Windows you're running before letting you install it like some antivirus software because they sell more expensive licenses for server versions.
