Windows Server 2008 as workstation

Some dude here has made a lame guide on how to turn 08 server into a workstation-oriented OS.

I use 2k3 on my desktop and I'll be picking up a copy of 2k8 at a launch event. I remember benchies back in the day showing 2k3 was faster, but I'm not sure that 2k8 is faster vs vista sp1. Anybody know about that?

yeah vista with sp1 will be up to date with server 2008 kernel. so that would kind of make the server a stripped down version of vista, laking all the media, and other stuff, but without benches you can't tell if it will be any faster.

You can add most of the Vista stuff back in with the desktop experience feature, so the performance differences would probably be marginal. A lot of people will say 2008 is faster, but that opinion is usually based on the amount of memory in use. That number will be lower on 2008 without SuperFetch enabled, but doesn't necessarily mean it will be faster.
