I'll have to test this out on the quad sometime, it will be nice to have the PPPOE natively as well as the updated terminal services.

No surprise, Solaris sucks.

care to explain ?
Yeah I would like to hear why Solaris 9 sucks also?

All I am going to say is this:

Just because everyone is doing it...doesn't make it allright.

My momma taught me that. :)

Interesting.

Would you recommend a switch from Win2k to Win2k3?

It would give me an excuse to have a new install. This Win2k install is like 2 years old, and is showing a few signs of OS Rott.

yeah, you'd pay over $600 for even the cheapest version of win2k3(web edition)... HAH... well maybe you can find one of those RC2 releases that ahve over 360 days of "trial"... interesting they put such a long limit... at least the one I got from the MSI expo in Chicago a few weeks ago... I hear the MS premiere for win2k3 will give away 120 day "trial" of RC2

Just cause people don't know how to properly setup and use Solaris doesn't mean it sucks.
It's got it's quirks, but it's a very solid OS if you know what you're doing.

Of course Im talking about the SPARC version.

Heh, we'll see how it competes when it gets out there in the real world. I hate articles that claim something is better than something else when it JUST came out.

but there's no reason to upgrade my servers from w2k to this, i'd just give more $$ for MS.

that is where our Enterprise Agreement is nice, i can leave the $ out of the equation, and decide soley on the merits of the new OS

You don't want to run it on your home systems. MSFT is starting to differentiate the server products from the workstation products and is cutting home-friendly features from the server products. For instance, by default, hardware video accelleration is not fully enabled on W2K3 server so your games won't run. (by default. it can be changed.)

I fully expect MSFT to continue this trend.

sound isn't even turned on by default
i tried playing a "simple" game on w2k3 (Ago of Mythology, a MS game) and it wouldn't run "out of the box" , there are tweak pages that tell you how to change everything in w2k3 to make is run games
