Windows registry errors when installing more RAM. Is it my MoBo?

I have an Abit BE6 with 128mg of Mushkin Rev 1.5 PC133 and it's in the first slot next to the CPU. I bought another stick of the same stuff from Mushkin and when I installed it in the second slot I got windows registry errors so I tried the third slot and then it would run for about an hour or 2 then hang/freeze on me. I mailed Mushkin and they mailed me another stick but I got the same results. I never tried to move the RAM from the first slot(the one that works) to any of the other two as I figured it must be the MoBo and not the RAM.

Am I missing something, I should just be able to stick it in and let it fly right? Is there something in the bios that I need to enable? Some switch that says "added more RAM". Or can my 2nd and 3rd slots just not be working?

I would like to add more but why get some again if only to get the same results. In the Hot deals they have Crucial RAM (256mg) for $95. Do I just get a stick of that and put it in my only working slot? do I just donate the whole thing to some worthy cause?

you're running the FSB at 100?! if so then try reducing CAS latency, set to slower mode:

in BIOS under the 'Chipset Features Setup'
SDRAM CAS Latency Time 2 --> 3
SDRAM RAS Precharge Time 2 --> 3
SDRAM RAS-to-CAS Delay 2 --> 3

if it works after the modifications above then your RAM is not capable of PC100-222 mode (which I can't believe 'cause it's Mushkin and not NoName...). Or your mobo can't supply enough power to the other DIMM slots (don't believe this either but you never know...)

Try every combination you can imagine! Move the stick from the first slot to another slot and install the stick you just bought instead of it... blablabla you know what I mean

I have my FSB at 133. Both are PC133 Rev 1.5 Cas2 sticks with Mosel Vitalic chips so I figured it must be my board as I can't imagine I got 2 bad sticks from them. How can I check the voltage at the slot?

Abit BE6 it's a BX board, isn't it?! o/c'ed, I suppose... this COULD explain the problem

voltage at slot? I don't know. you need to know where the voltage pins are. I doubt that's written in your manual but at developer.intel.com or support.intel.com you can find plenty of docs and specification for the PC100 and PC133 standard etc. And finally you need a digital multimeter... be sure to disconnect everything when checking it, one false move and your mobo and other components go TO HELL...

Yep it's O/Ced. You think O/Cing could be a problem? It justseems funny that the 1st slot works great but the other two don't work at all.

maybe it's time for an upgrade.

it's working at the limit so another memory stick could be the factor that decides between OK and CANCEL

but as said above try all possible combinations and play around in the BIOS settings.

I think there's also a website that is dedicated to the ABIT BX-mobos, I don't know how's it called but you can search for it. maybe you're not the only one with that problem and don't forget the alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit - newsgroup...

have you tryed the new ram in slot one with your old ram in slot 2 or 3?

Do you have a BE6 or BE6-2? I have the BE6-2 with a p3700@980 and 2
sticks of pc133 128mb crucial ram running at 3,3,3. Stable. I tried all
different combinations and this one works best.

It's just the BE6. I' figured I'll try the RAM that works in the second slot and see what happens and I guess if it doesn't I'll know that me slots are T.U.
