Windows Question...

Ok so here is my problem. The copy of Wnndows XP on my computer is aparently not legit. I didn't build this computer some one else did for me. I want to buy a legit copy of Wondows XP or upgrade to Vista. What will happen to all the programs (ie games, photoshop programs and general info) that is currently on there if a new OS is installed? Should i back up or ghost the system before I do this? I know enough about computers to do it i just don't have the experience to go ahead and purchase something. Any ideas or thoughts as to what i should do here? Any help would be great. 😕

It may cost a little more than buying a legit copy and re-installing it, but Microsoft has a program that allows you to "upgrade" your current installation to be legit, and they send you a legal copy of whatever version you're legitimizing.

See their FAQ for info.

The other alternative is to buy a legit copy and install it from the ground up. Before you do, export your address book, bookmarks, etc. to files you can import to your new installation. Better yet, install it on another drive. That will allow you to connect your current drive as a slave to copy all your current files to your new installation.

To an honest man...  😎
