A friend brought me a WinME PC that won't boot. It keeps saying "Windows Protection Fault. Please Restart your Computer" durring boot. I get the same meddage trying to boot into safe mode. Is there anyway to fix this problem?

Thanks.

It's not an upgrade, I can't get into safe mode either, I don't have either of the antivirus programs listed, and Norton is compatible with ME.

do you know if your friend installed any software just before the problem started?

reicherb, i don't know i would just disable delete norton, i know that you cant boot into windows but if evrything else fails (as a last resort), then from a boot disk delete norton! its a long shot but i know from pasttime that antivirus software and sytstem file protection could mess up things regardless of antivirus brand. I always disable system file protection (the first thing i do).

if you are gonna trie the delete norton-option then please let us know if it works (before you do that hang on for a while and see if you get any other help here). :)

note: Also you could do a reinstall winme in winme (dunno if your files programs would be intact though).

I'm not sure if it would have made any diffrence anyway. Hopefully it will work out with the winme on top of winme. back in the days i remember hacking winme for full dos mode and disabling system file protection. updating vid card drivers useally gives a system file protection error (unless you are in safe mode).
