Windows Protection Error

The above error appeared when i done a clean install with Windows 98 SE. In MS database it says to start into Safemode to fix the problem from there but even that does not work as the same error appears. Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks,
Osmononame.

There are many things that can cause a WPE. Many are hardware related. Isolating the fault is a tedious process. It is especially frustrating with a clean install because you have nothing to go back to.

I had it caused by a wimpy power supply. Changed it and the problem vanished. Others have had it happen with bad RAM. Also, extreme or unattainable BIOS settings or overclock settings can cause it. Most BIOSes have a safe default setting . . . use it and see if it helps. Set all motherboard jumpers or switches to default settings.

keep digging and eliminating variables.

Its almost always bad RAM. When you o/c something it could be reading bad memory, the strob could be messed up or what not. But a WPF is almost always bad RAM. I would go look into that one first. If you can get some RAM that you works and plug it in.
