I have a Nokia 820. Since it has expandable MicroSD, I'm hoping to put a lot of music on it.

I'm running into a number of problems syncing with the official windows phone software.

Firstly, Sometimes for no reason the phone will divide an album into two or three. The album will have the same album title, but like tracks 2+3 will be in one folder, and the rest will be in another.

Secondly, sometimes songs don't show up within albums even though they are present on the sd card.

What gives?

Anytime I've had this problem it is because the tracks in an album don't have the same exact name for the artist and/or album in the tag. Look at the album under list view in windows explorer and verify that all the info is this same. Hope this helps!

Also, are you using the sync software or just manually dragging and dropping albums?

Are you on GDR2 yet? From what I've read it may correct that problem (splitting stuff up). My music collection is an OCD paradise, I believe the problem is not tags/metadata, but the phone ID'ing music and then sorting it out that way.

I need to delete my music off my phone and re-add it (did get the update). I might try deleting the album info it downloaded through Windows Explorer and see if it "fixes" stuff for me again.

The syncing and whatnot with both WP8 and W8 is a hot mess. I ended up with WMP and Zune on our new W8 laptop since the included stuff is just crap.

GDR2? I checked for software updates on my phone and it says latest software.

The error is something like, "we could not save this file to your phone."

the file is saved anyways, but then the albums are split up.

This is a horrible bug. how did they not fix this shit?

I have no idea. This stuff worked in WP7 and even a year after release music handling on this thing is still a mess.

Btw, WPCentral has a pretty lively forum, probably be able to see if there are any workarounds or whatnot there.

Windows Phone is MTP enabled. You can try using other software that pushes MTP. I happen to use Musicbee on my Windows 8 desktop. Works fine, I never messed with the official Windows Phone sync app.

Disable integration with Xbox music. There's a 95% chance that is why your tags are breaking. It tends to overwrite existing tags on pre-GDR2 revisions.

Ugh, so how do I get GDR2? I'm trying to log into nokia care, but I can't seem to.

Waiting on the Deathstar. They haven't approved the 920 yet either. Or the 620 on their prepaid carrier.

Deleted music off my phone today, only had time to throw a few albums back on. Going to throw several gigs on tomorrow and see if it can leave them alone (it is supposed to only update tags/cover/metadata if they are missing now, all of my music is tagged, sorted, cover art synchronized, file/folder names standardized, etc).

edit: I have GDR2 but I am on Verizon.
