good evening dear friends :)

first of all: i am not very sure if this is posted to the right sub-forum. Plz set me straight if i am wrong.

i am somewhat excited about the new development in the field of the ARM-processors: have heard that Windows on ARM is set to become much more exciting - in the upcoming months. But i am unsure - if this really will happen. What do you think?

Well: Nvidia is reportedly launching its own high-end processors in 25.

As from the perspective of a hardware-user: That seems to be exciting; so there will be some kind of competition in the field: AMD, Intel, Qualcomm and Apple will face new competition:
As some say Nvidia apparently wants to introduce its first ARM processors for Windows-on-ARM devices.

What do you think !?

i look forward to a fruitful discussion. :)

I have no interest in windows anything, but if they become a real player, it'll may get more arm chips into standard desktop computers, and people can then put a sensible o/s on them.

Hey you both.
Many thanks for the reply. Awesome to hear from you. Well I also love Linux. But I am very excited about the ARM - part.

I really look forward to it. :)

Cheers

As far as I understand, the main problem with Qualcomm is their drivers are really not up to the snuff when talking windows on Arm. That might change with Nvidia, if they launch an Arm APU/SoC

I'd like to see more progress on ARM Cpus, but, Windows 10 support ends in October of 2025, so as far as I know there is no future for windows as it will be out of support.

Linux still only accounts for less than 5% of the pc market in OSes. Even if you double that for all flavors, that's still a small but obviously, significant userbase. And growth seems to be accelerating.

For the average pc user, architecture hasn't really mattered for at least a decade. Nothing like being a tech leader.

Most of us here are still "PC geeks" but the world writ large is already post-PC. Generally speaking, competition is good for consumers but I don't know if WoA should be called "exciting."

Linux already dominates server farms and mobile devices; while ARM's mobile dominance should ultimately move upstream to servers (and perhaps even Windows PCs).

I'm no Nostradamus, but Intel is in a world of hurt right now on multiple fronts. If I had to guess, they'll eventually be put up for sale.
