I don't know if anyone plays this game.. There is a cheat code: open the game, then press XYZZY on the keyboard, then press Shift, then press Enter. Then as you move your mouse, the pixel in the upper-left corner of the screen will change color if there is a mine under the mouse.
 
Even better cheat code: Just edit the winmine.ini file and enter anything you want as the best time. I did that to my bosses machine and had him convinced I beat expert level in 32 seconds. That doesn't work in XP though, they're storing top scores somewhere else, probably the registry.

I am not a cheater 🙂

This code helps when the situation is ambiguous and there is no way to determine where to move (which happens sometimes). Then, you can use the code.

If you wish to find out where the game keeps its high scores, download SysInternals.com 's File Monitor and Registry Monitor.
