I wonder if someone can help? A friend of mine has asked if I can advise him how to stop what appears to be "Windows Messenger" Popups. Every now and then he get a message asking to contact "Bob" or whether or not he want's his "manhood" enlarging. (Now, he might, but he's not telling!
)
Okay, it was me that installed WinXp with SP1 on his computer, in fact I built it for him. Anyway, I uninstalled "Windows Messenger" when I had completed the installation of WinXP using the "Add and Remove Programs" method and after first hacking the Sysoc.ini file so that Windows Messenger would show up in "add and remove programs".
As far as I'm aware Windows Messenger has not been reinstalled or re-enabled.
Why would he be getting these messages when I have done the exact same thing on my system and do not get these popups? He has run Ad-Aware and there appears to be no spyware, or indeed no viruses when checked with Norton AV 2004 (Don't laugh, and say "well that doesn't suprise me!")
He's getting really racked off with this now. So, is there an explanation and/or fix I can relay back to him.
Regards,
