mpegs, movs and associated apple-based codecs seem to work fine, but divx and wma/wmv kind of things (including pretty much all streaming video i've seen) seem to have this strange problem.

By the way, I did just do a reformat-windows reinstall about a week ago, and am still in the process of installing drivers, etc. yes, i did get the latest nvidia driver.

i bet the problem is because you have the latest nvidia driver ;)

go to display properties -> settings -> advanced -> (your video card) -> color correction -> is your gamma slider way high? move it back to 1 if it is (if you can't, change the "Apply color changes to:" dropdown to "All" first)

unfortunately, that doesn't seem to help...it's just the gamma on the videos themselves inside of wmp that are causing me problems. i'm gonna go investigate that pronto.

what you suggested ttweaks overall gamma output...

yes! i got it to work, thank god. how you do it, for the record, is by, in windows media player, going to

tools --> options --> performance --> advanced --> *uncheck "Use YGB flipping"*

thanks guys for the suggestions, but HN's suggestion worked....i actually tried it last night and it worked....applying the color changes to "all" instead of "desktop" corrected the problem...thanks for the suggestions guys =)

I had the same problem and HNs solution worked for me as well. I also have the latest nvidea driver. Strange thing though, i changed my color correction to all, and the problem was fixed, then i changed it back to desktop, and the problem is still fixed, very odd. any way just wanted to thank HNs, i was compleatly stumped, i was going to have to reformat.
