Recent problem, nothing new installed, just started happening one day:

WinXP, new Thinkpad (T61), after I'm watching a divx movie or file and pausing it for a while, it starts backup but then its in slow motion and laggy and the audio/video are out of sync. I check the task manager and the memory usage for WMP has shot up tremendously when it reaches this point.

Tried: reinstalling WMP 11, installing WMP 9, installing new divX codecs, and new video card drivers.
