When you click on "File" in WMP it shows the last 9 or 10 things that have been played. Is there a way to turn this off?

HEHEHE, I think thats exactly what he means :). I think the problem stopped for me when I upgraded to the latest version of it, but not sure why it helped.

I don't like recent file lists, either. (Not in any application, not even a word processor.) TweakUI for XP does have the ability to scrub the recent file lists for many parts and applets of the OS, but I don't think it covers the WMP.

I've noticed that, if you play files by double-clicking on them in Windows Explorer, the filenames don't show up in the list.

I've seen the below reg file posted in lots of places. It would appear to blow away the recent file lists for WMP. I've never tested it because I primarily use WMP for playing back DVDs. I only play media files off the hard drive by double-clickin on them in Windows Explorer, as I mentioned before.

--------------- file begins after this line -----------------
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList
--------------- file ends before this line -----------------

Or you could just click on about 10 mp3s quickly to "erase" those naughty movies you've been watching.

The great thing about the file thing is most people don't know about it, especially if your boss watches pron on company computers. Its great info to have when asking for a raise.

I just followed the registry to the entries for the current user, and now it doesn't seem to keep a recent file list anymore...I deleted all of the entries in the recent file list, and that seemed to do the trick...in XP anyway...

Heheh...sure pRon eraser and whatever else....I don't like showing any history on my computers at all. I have I don't use the autocomplete for urls, I have tweakui clear recent documents and even my search and run box entries. Those paranoia settings where made for me.

So anyway in Win2000 I have deleted the registry keys for recent file lists in _USERS and _CURRENT_USERS which does clear the recent files. The only problem is that the next time you play a file it puts those keys right back in.
