Windows media player 9.0 problem

I installed WMP version 9.0 on top of my previous 7.0 version.
Now I expected better performance from this player but now what I see is that any clip I play I see it frame by frame. Meaning I can see frmaes changing and it looks like an image from a webcam. Same clips were playing smooth in earlier version of media player. I played around with settings, frame speeds but nothing helped.

Please help what is the problem here? How can I enjoy the same smothness in viewing .mpg or any other video clips?
Thanks.

P.S. I thought of reinstalling 7.0 version but it is no longer available.

update the player if possible, get latest dvx codec (www.divx.com) for playin divx, get directx 9 (www.microsoft.com/directx) and latest video card drivers....
thats what id do, not a specific fix, but if you do that its bound to work in the end...

sorry if its not much help

i think that's a great start, since the new Media Player overwrote his codecs (the most likely thing that would be "frame by frame" would be a divx movie).
