I tried to run add / remove from control panel, clicked on windows media player 11, choose remove, says it's removed with a finish button. I click finish, it's still there. I rebooted, tried to remove the windows media player 11 runtime, I get an error message that program dependencies are blocking the uninstallation.

I have removed every hotfix associated with WMP in updates, same thing. I even tried to remove both in safe mode, and it fails.

I cannot for the life of me get rid of this WMP11! I just want version 9 or 10 back, anybody ever heard of this?

I went through the same hoops a few months back. WMP11 does not handle SoundMax drivers for MIDI very well, and I had to put WMP 10 back in. It was a matter of uninstalling 11 and then installing 10. CCleaner will certainly help and you can also use System Restore to go back to a date before you installed 11.
