Without the ME CD, how do I go about reinstalling the Windows sounds? Is there an easier way or is there some place online I can download and reinstall them from? Tips are welcome, thank you.
 
Are you talking about the .wav files for different system events that Windows uses, like shutdown, error, startup etc? If so what happened to them?
 
The .wav files are fine as I can locate them, copy them and then paste them to another location and they'll play using WMP. However, they don't work within Windows. Like when the comp starts up, it makes no sound. When I go into the sound player to try and play those sounds it says something about turning on audio compression. I went into control panel, removed audio compression then reinstalled it only to find the same error message.
