Windows ME Uninstallation

My mom has Win ME on her computer and I would love for her to just go back to win 98 and I was wondering if anyone has had luck using the Add/Remove Programs listing for uninstalling Win ME? Will it screw anything up or will it flawlessly go back to win 98? I'm scared it will screw something up and then she will be mad at me. What should I do?

Thanks
Matt

it worked fine when i did it long ago on my celeron 500 hp computer. i used the upgrade for win ME and right after it installed, it would lock up right after boot. did that a few times, then after it rebooted again, BSOD. i went into safe mode and just did the add/remove and killed it that way. everything was back to normal (as far as win9x is concerned that is).

The only thing that scares me is that my mom has been using Win ME for at least a year or two, so she's installed programs and such, so that's why I'm not sure if it would mess up anything. In your case, it sounds like you didn't make many (if any) changes after ME was installed and then removed.

you could always fire up ghost and ghost that puppy before you do it. that way if something happens, you can reload everything back to the way it was.

It will work most of the time, but don't expect it to be stable. Your best bet is always to backup your data and reinstall.

That's what I figured, unfortunately.
