I am getting ready to redo windows and partion my drive so I got a couple questions.

So which should I install? I do 3d gaming, surfing the net and MP3s and thats about it. Explain which you would go for and why? Also is it harder to find drivers for ME? Is the driver support for it about the same as 98SE or worse?

I also have a 13gig Western Digital drive that I want to partion into a 8gig and the rest to the other drive. How do I do this? Last time I redone windows I thought I done it right but didnt. I first made a primary partion and put in how big I wanted it to be then went back and made a extended partion and added what was left to it.

This doesnt answer the question but it's pertinent. I have ME on my kids computer and I hate it. I recommend using ME on a freinds or at the store. It was just too dumbed down in my opinion. But their is also probably some options to disable some of that I was just so annoyed with the differences between 98se and ME to give it much of a shot so check it out before you bye

I never could get my HD partioned into 2 drives.

I have tried ME and dont see anything wrong with it really but I am just curious about how good it will run games and drivers for different devices.

Gaming performance with ME would be about same and drivers for newer stuff is no prob. Tried too put a older JVC (model # ?) cdrw in a HP pavillian for a freind and it would only play audio cds unless their were no audio tracks then it was ok we never figured it out but didnt try very long the drive was picked up used with a if it works clause from another freind so he just gave it back. It detected any cd with a cd audio track as an audio cd with just those tracks. It was weird so if your stuff is newer it wont be a prob. Also microsoft has a page that talks about various incompatible hardware but that drive wasnt listed. Hope that helps a little until someone that knows more chimes in

I've never used more than one partition so I cant help ya their

Windows 98SE for me was terrible - Windows 98 great!
Windows ME excellent so far :)

I recently upgraded from SE to ME and the most striking difference to me was that ME booted up a lot faster (like in 5 secs vs. 15 under SE). Downside is there's no option to quit to DOS anymore, which I consider a stupid restriction.

Faster bootup, more stable than Win98 (I was using the 1st edition though). Bad thing is that it automatically tries to load drivers when it detects new hardware without asking you if you have your own, and this has caused trouble for me.

Another vote for 98se.

Me is a waste. Dell has people "upgrading" left and right to 98se over ME on desktops... mostly due to stability issues with ME. Me is suck.

I'll be honest I stuck with Win 98 SE because I heard so many negative things about Win ME....then I thought what the hell give it a go.....and I'm glad I did :)
It's way better than 98 Sucking Edition...for me anyway!
Remember not all computers react the same.
Win 98 was great for me back in 1998 when everybody said don't use it!
Running at 950Mhz with my Duron 700 it seems fast enough for me :)

From personal experience, my vote is for SE. I've never had an issue with configuring SE and getting it tweaked to perfection (at least as perfect as I can get it).

I've seen ME cause grief in two areas:

1. DVD drives and ME don't always play nicely. I used to have a Pioneer 303S and I never got it to work at all. Worked fine in DOS or SE, but ME just did not see it.

2. ME seems to be slower with regards to networking. I've had the opportunity to see two computers configured identically with the only difference being OS (SE v. ME). The ME machine was almost ALWAYS slower. For example, both machines connect to a game and the SE machine is merrily fragging away while the ME machine is still negotiating the connection.

Yes, ME looks a little prettier, but SE is the old standby.

My 2 cents.
