Ok, my bootleg copy of win2k is just too unreliable to work. So I took the computer to a repair shop to fix. Since my dad was paying for it, he made the decision to buy Windows ME for it. However, this OS sucks! It's being SLOOOW and often freezes. I want to re-install it myself so if need be, I can accuse myself of the problems and not the shop. Anyway, Windows ME is sooo messed up, it wont recognize my cd-rom.

How do I format the hard-drive and reinstall... ie what boot disks do i need and a step by step guide... as the manual given to me sucks!

thanks

Sounds like you may have an "older" CD-Rom player (94-96)...

If this is the case, you should consider getting a new one. I have seen many times an old CD-Rom that does not properly read every BIT on some discs, the end result can lead to improperly installed programs (from CD) that only appear to have installed correctly.

Anyway, if you are having a difficult time booting with CD-Rom support, go to BootDisk and D/L what works.

you said it.. winME sucks.. but if you are going to keep it you may want to disable the options that auto backup your system.. this is give you back about a gig or so space.. also if you upgraded from 98 to ME you might have some problems.. with a totally fresh install you should see some slightly better performance.
