I really need some Windows ME Help....

The other day i came home and turned on my laptop to find the message: Could not find system.ini, boot from emergency disk and type scanreg /restore. I did this and i got my laptop to boot into windows and i can get on the internet and other certain things BUT i also can't do somethings like...

-print from the internet, i can print from ms word
-click on the links in the navigation on this site(the thing above profile, search, etc.)
-visit hotmail.com
-pm people on this site (because the windows that is supposed to pop up doesn't)
-other small miscellanous things like that

EDIT: Got everything (not sure about system restore) to work by reinstalling ie 6 sp1 and j2re

* cue obligatory "ME sucks, upgrade to XP" posts *

Seriously, though, Windows ME has a terrible reputation of instability and bugs. What kind of hardware do you have on your laptop? I would start backing up your data immediately.

Sounds like your Java got messed up. Do you have another browser to try, that uses J2RE?

Well XP will run with 128Mb, it'll just be slow unless you turn a lot of stuff off. You can always give it a try; maybe Ghost your drive before doing it :)

i run xp on my laptop: 750p3, 128mb ram, 12 gig hd, dvd rom. It works pretty good depending on what you do with it, i mostly use it for ie, aim, irc and word. I'm probably going to put 2000 on it when i get less lazy though

I've got ME on a laptop too (Toshiba Satellite). Do you a reconfiguration disk (or whatever they want to call it?). Back up your data and run that puppy. Should fix ya right up.

If you need some files or wanna see how my sys looks, let me know I'll help.

I'm pretty sure my Java stuff is messed up although i'm not sure how to fix it. Another example of it:

clicking on a hyperlink that is supposed to: javascript:SubmitForm(","blahblah) does nothing.

One more thing, when i try to open windows media player 9 it says "internal error occured"

Yea, my netscape navigator works, so i guess it has J2RE although i really would prefer using IE :\
