Windows ME harddrive help

i just got a new 40gb harddive and Windows ME doesnt konw that it is 40gb anyone know why?

I'm guessing you mean Windows ME, not MS ME. Anyways.....

Some config's (mostly older ones) wouldn't reconize drives bigger than 8GB, is that by any chance your problem? Also, where are you getting your numbers from? And what numbers are you getting?

ok i just got a 40GB harddrive, i put it in and did the software it needed, then it only reqonised 15 of the 40, would it be posible for it to still use the extra 25GB

Is this a NEW drive? or a USED one? If it's a used one it's possible that it has partitions on it that windows won't reconize. Actually check the partitioning anyways, that may be where your issues are.

when i installed the drive and the saftware it did the partitions for me

can I assume you didn't use fdisk then? did you make just one partition or more?

Using Partition Magic or fDisk, you can see how much of the disk is unpartitioned. If all of it is partitioned, and it's still showing only 15gb, you may want to flash your bios.

I had to flash bios on an old comp to break the 8.4gb limit.

hmm, has it occured to you that your hdd may actually be a 15Gb one if you only made 1 partition?
post the make, model number & any other id strings on the top of the hdd!
