Posted a couple times but this is my first Hot deal, I think. Went to Fry's Elect. today to pick up the 2-disc(yes the 2 disc)set of Boogie Nights for $13.99. Found that they have Windows ME for Dummies book on sale for $5.99. Ask for the $5.00 rebate form at the check out counter. The books sugg. retail (on the back cover) is $19.99 and Fry's regular price is $17.95. After rebate and tax it comes to just over $1.00. Not bad for a $20 book that I sure could use.
For those of you thinking of upgrading to Windows ME, you can do this and it's perfectly legal. It's cheaper than buying the full upgrade version and with the $0.99 Windows ME for Dumbies you don't need the full manual. By a used copy of Windows 98 from someone or get a friend to give you it for free if they have already upgraded (If you have a nice friend like that). Then buy the Windows ME promotional upgrade ($50.00). The Windows ME upgrade will do a full install as long as you have a Windows 98 disc. Just install the Windows ME upgrade disc and when it asks for the Windows 98 disc, put it in, then take it out and put the Windows ME disc back in. Hope this helps you people out there....

This book is free from Staples after rebate, if purchased with
WinME (any version).

Yeah, I went with the Office Depot deal. I got a flier in the mail for $5 off and used that with the Windows ME promotional update $50. Got the software pack (10 BS programs)free with it, and bought the EZ USB Cam II for $25 (and has a $25 rebate to make it almost free (TAX) and got MS Picture It! software for $10 and has a ($10 rebate to make it also almost free). All this for about $50.

Hmmm, when I picked up and got the Windows Me book it said nothing about it needing to be bought with Windows Me. I have the rebate and it only says copy of or original UPC and copy of receipt.

Dude, Win ME is ALREADY for dummies. That's the whole point. You SHOULDN'T need any sort of manual to use Win ME. It's the most dumbed down version of Win9x there is.

If you install Win ME and if you find yourself needing to consult a For Dummies book, you don't belong here. You belong on My Poopons.

You got a point but I keep it as a reference only. Have you ever used the Microsoft help? It's impossible. I would rather have reference handy.

Have I ever used Microsoft Help?

Are you really sure you wouldn't feel more comfy at My Poopons? Over there, they use Microsoft Help ALL the time. Imagine THAT. Some of them even use Mac OS Help.
