Windows ME and hardware problems

Has anyone who has upgraded to Windows ME experienced hardware problems? Scanners not working? Printers? CD Writers?

Just curious because I'm planning to install it and am wondering how many problems I'm going to have. Most of my hardware isn't listed on Microsoft's website as being "tested" with Windows ME so I'm a little scared.

If it worked in Windows 98 almost 100% sure it will work in ME.

I have used me and it works great. My scanner, digital camera is all found and drivers are installed automaticly.

I like.

i went from win98se to winme and there is no problem at all. everything is up and running just fine.

the only thing that doesn't work is winpoet, the program that's used to connect to DSL. that's just coz' winme is using a different TCP/IP stack i think. (hmm, well, this is not hardware 🙂)

Thought the same this is basically a overlay program to 98! how much differance could one expect? so I loaded it over Win 98 S.E. and what do you know.....right off the bat I go to change a channel on my Voodoo 3500 and "walla" no sound on first channel change. It was there right off the bat then went south, then the picture started a vertical flip...well to make a long story short I got a little pissed why should I have to go tweak my system, whether it be the 3dfx card or my SoundBlaster Live card if it was working before it should still after this upgrade..... now I removed it, and the Voodoo card started working great again. Now I have to get in touch with Microsoft to find out what the problem is............Upgrade....GO FIGURE

i've done several Win ME installs on several different computers, and WIn ME has installed fine on each and every one. Except for that annoying system restore crap, i really like ME. BEWARE- IF YOU LET IT, SYSTEM RESTORE WILL EAT UP GIGABYTES OF HDD SPACE!

Just installed mine today, had no problems what so ever...all hardware is running as if Me was never installed...maybe Im lucky.. 🙂

I have a LOT of problems at the beginning. This was before the Detonator 6.18 drivers came out. Once they came out, Windows Media Player stopped crashing (I couldn't use the win98 drivers).

Then when it was giving me a blue screen saying "Cannot write to drive C:" I was about to can it. I downloaded the ATA Storage drivers from Intel and it fixed that problem.

Just remember.....not all Windows98 drivers work with Me.

It is always good to have the most updated drivers for winME just to be on the safe side... Find and get those drivers before you upgrade, so that they are avaliable when you need them...

Well, my problem went away when I downloaded the latest drivers from the 3dfx site. Now I hear that in some cases you just have to reload any driver that stops working after loading Win ME.

I had only one problem: My Belkin USB video bus. With a little help from Belkin tech support found a workaround which is the Win2000 drivers and the later software package. They have now released the Video Bus II, which I HAD to order.

I had a problem with windows me and aol. It freezes up when you
log on. hit control alt del once. then you can log fine.
good luck!!!

WELLLLLLLLLLLLLL........................

I take it back for a second cause last night I lost my CD rom....now I have to find out if that's M.E. related

Semi off topic but,

I have not really kept up with the news on ME. I have been fooling with Win 2K.

What are the improvements / advantages of ME over 98SE? Is the "upgrade" a good option this time (not like 98 upgrade from 95)? Or should I go to a new install if I decide to go to ME?

Thanks for your time.

RE: "WELLLLLLLL"

Looks like my Creative 52X CD rom hit the shibed, after only 6mths-1 year oh well........on to another CD rom.....and I only used to have nice things to say about creative......Sorry "ME" for almost putting the blame on you!

I tried to do a clean install from the regular upgrade version (manual says it works). Everything was fine until it rebooted for the second time and started looking for devices. That is when the blue screens started, and they were stacked 4 deep at times. I tried formating and reinstalling 3 times but got stuck at the same place each time. I finally had succes after installing win98, and putting ME on top of it....
I was rather upset that I wasted 8 hours pissing around with it.

I have been running me for a while, it worked better as the beta than the full version, and now I have found out some hints as to why, now it won't let me (no pun intended) run media player playlists for movies. It blue screens when exiting a lot of games, and it doesn't let me install my orb drive... I think it is all drivers thou.

The only difference between Win98 and ME is that ME uses the Win2000 tcp/ip stack for networking and does not support real mode DOS anymore to make it more stable. As long as the hardware or software doesn't deal with those two issues..all things that work with 98 should work in 98.
SHOULD being the key word...this is still microsoft were talking about 🙂

well my dads computer I need to reinstall the modem everytime I want to connect, and my computer won't let me install my orb drive, even thou it worked on win me beta..

I would have to say the concensus is "WIN ME" does indeed do some strange things that are a little unexpected to say the least. I would recommend staying away from it until all the bugs are worked out and I wouldn't hold my breath......it's going to take a while

until the bugs are fixed? that's gonna be when the next generation windows release...

well, if i were to say, win me pros are more than cons.
