Windows MCE Remote Control Problem - Suddenly stopped working... HELP!!!

I have Windows Media Center Edition and have a remote control (Microsoft) that I have been using without a single problem for almost a year now. All of a sudden yesterday, the remote stops working, what gives? Noe of the buttons are responding I have tried changing batteries in the remote and changing the USB connection on the receiver (a red light blinks once when reconnected). Does anyone know why this is happening? How do I resolve?

I had the same problem. Remove the batteries for about 30 min and then reinstall them. It should start working again.

One little test is to try using the remote next to an AM radio antenna. If the oscilator in the remote is working, you will hear a machine-gun like sound through the radio. This test does not actually test that the remote is emitting an IR signal, but it's a good indicator that the internal electronics (and batteries) are functioning.
