I thought I would ask you all first, I am looking for software to replace this crap our school uses to "secure" the workstations, all this seems to beable to do is get in the way (its a funky mad reg editor :p) its called security setup lite II (it blows) so does FoolProof, I was hoping some of you would know of a program that will lock down windows 98 (upgrading to 2000 or XP is not an option we have no money for it) preferably somthing very inexpensive or even free.

thanks.

Fortres 101 is a really good piece of software
definitely worth getting
you might also wanna check out winselect
but fortres is better in my opinion

fortress blows chunks, I can get by it in less then 15 seconds, and totally disable it in 30...I have tried win select aswell, it still has problems with allowing programs to be run...

thanks for the help tho.

arent you still a high school student? Why be the person who pisses off everyone else? When i was in high school, i was the computer helper who helped everyone get on the internet, not limit them.

fortres works great if its setup properly :)
but there never really is any fool proof method other than 24/7 constant physical monitoring and even then its not :D

what do you mean by secure? you mean network secure or application secure? in either case if you setup a domain, you can have group policy pushed down to the clients which can restrict or enable just about anything.

well with group policy you can say that machines that are part of this domain cannot run anythig except for word and IE, you can impose disk quotas, and you can secure all the traffic using IPSec. Your best bet is to setup a domain and do it like that.
