Windows load screen won't end w/ new SATA drive#RESOLVED

EDIT: Resolved...or so I believe. Post at bottom shows that this is more then likely a faulty SATA HDD Drive and has nothing to do with my PC software or PC Hardware

---------
I've had to use an old HDD drive of mine (not that old, but old) ever since I made my last PC build and gave my other drives to 2nd backup computer

PC loads totally fine with this setup
amd 64x2 5000
GA-M57SLI S series
2gig RAM
IDE WD 80 gig drive
Windows XP pro
4850 HD

* new SATA drive is seagate barracuda 250 g

I hooked up a new SATA drive into the existing drive bay , hooked up the power, hooked up the SATA cable into SATA1

Start computer and I get to the windows screen and it just loads forever and never actually moves into Windows

Disconnect SATA drive everything is fine, so obviously it's related to this new hard drive.

I installed the new MOBO drivers, ensured SATA is enabled in BIOS, but to no avail.

What am I missing? This seems ridiculously simple, I've never had this issue before, help!

update, I can get windows to post eventually after like 10 min but windows does not recognize the SATA as bios does not either

blegh

wish I knew what was going on...I'm going to try a clean install w/ SATA drive only. SOmething wierd is going on....

UPDATE: I swapped power cables and SATA cables with known working models, still failed
I moved SATA drive into 2nd computer with known working HDD SATA Drives and it still failed (booting issues like main PC)

Replaced present working SATA drive with same cables and it works fine.

Pretty sure this is a dead drive =(

Never happened to me, but I have received dead MOBO's before. Pretty sh!tty how these make it off the assembly line.....
