Windows installation trouble

Problem: When installing windows xp, right before installation completes, computer will either reboot, or i'll get a blue screen which pops up and says something like "windows installation has shut down due to possible problems.... disable caching, and shadowing....." Followed by a STOP message with a list of numbers which are drivers i believe....

After that it says: "beginning dump of physical memory... physical memory dump complete"

What could be my problem?

I just bought a new motherboard
(http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-136-153&depa=1)
and a new CPU
(http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-103-506&depa=1)

I have 2 sticks of 256 pc 2100 ram, which have been working flawlessly.

I've tried installing without formatting on my old harddrive, and have since purchased a new harddrive (Seagate 160GB) and tried formatting/installing on it. Both reap the same results. I used a friends ripped copy of windows initially, and have also tried a completely legit windows xp cd. Both ended in the errors listed above.

My comp stopped working a month or so ago, and I ended up taking it to a local tech guy, who told me my motherboard had died. So while I was getting a new motherboard, thought I'd upgrade my cpu too. That's what has led me to my current crisis. I've talked with some friends about it, and I'm completely stumped. Someone please help!

I suspect this a memory timing problem, your new XP2500+ CPU is designed to work with PC2700 ram.

Try going into the BIOS setup screen on the motherboard and setting the FSB speed to 266Mhz.

ok, I went into bios, but the highest I could set my FSB to was 200. Maybe I'm missing something?? Also, I tried installaing again yesterday, and it got further than it has in the past, though it still ended in error. The new error read, "INF INSTALL FAILURE: REASON: The handle is invalid." This possibly mean anything to anymore 🙂

Thanks a lot for reading guys

pc2700 should be set at 166mhz

Just in case u still havent figured out your prob. umm try clearing cmos first and keep everything at default. For installation errors I would http://www.memtest86.com/ with both sticks of ram at SPD and fsb 166. Triple check the MB jumper settings ALL OF THEM. Then see if there is a BIOS update for ur board. somewhat that order.

I have run into this a few times, I have had to swap CD drive or hard drive, the swapped parts have always worked in other PC's fine too!

hey guys, I just wanted to let you know. I was installing yesterday with 1 stick of ram and vid card only, and I got the same error again: "the handle is invalid." So I figured it had messed up again. However, this time I just let it sit there, more because I was just to depressed to turn it off...and after a LONG time, the installation continued! It completed, and I've since put all my parts back in and am running real nice. So I have no idea...maybe if I had just let it wait on the very first installation it would have magically finished anyway.

Thank you all for your help, I really appreciate it! 🙂
