Windows Home Server

I have a whs box that has not yet been put into regular use because of 2 issue's. First is the lack of a free but effective anti-virus. I use avg 7.5 free on my client desktops but it wont install on whs because its svr-2003 based.I guess avg assumes that the av is protecting all the client boxes as in a domain or terminal server setup but this is a simple workgroup and the av has only to protect the whs box itself. Given the whs client limit of 10 users the AVG pricing model for this av program goes for well over $200 us, more than the os itself. If I change brands of av software I would insist on changing it on all boxes here to maintain consistancy so I prefer to stick with avg if possible. Is there a way to make avg think whs is just anouther client on the workgroup, as that is what it is? I'm not shure what I'm asking exactly; I'm new to svr-2003.How do I get anti-virus protection on a windows home server box without paying a corporate level fee to do so?
Because of the above I do not let the whs box stay on 24/7 as it's intended. But it wont shut down as it should either, I always have to hold in the power button to turn it off.I've ruled out hardware problems by replacing most everything all the way down to the motherboard much to the dis-pleasure of the Gods of product activation twice now.Digging thru the files related to acpi I find that whs uses acpi tables marked MSTEST. Other boxes here have their acpi table files provided by the mobo manufacturer and/or the bios provider.Could this be why this whs box wont turn off? It will shut down in standby and hibernate mode btw.Yes whs is supposed to be an always on headless server but without an effective antivirus I dont feel its safe to do so at this time. Thanks....

I'm trying to avoid replacing the av on all the computers here tho thats why I want to stick with avg.Guess i'm funny about that,I want all boxes here using the same av. That is one solution tho.
Regarding the shutdown issue I should mention that the whs box is a modern desktop setup with an Asus p5b mobo and e-6400 cpu.I've tried most everything in the MS article Q324268 without any luck. When I try to shutdown in safe mode the screen goes black but the safemode writing in each corner of the screen remains on, as does the cpu fan.So its really still running the cpu, memory and video at the minimum

I would sincerely recommend going with avast! Windows Home Server Edition for your WHS box. There is some concern (and anecdotal evidence) that normal AV apps can corrupt data on WHS boxes because they don't know how the drive extender tech works, and sometimes muck it up as a result. Right now it's the only WHS-aware product, and hence my recommendation as a result. We Got Served has a review up for it, and it seems pretty straightforward.
