Windows Home Server remote startup

I have a WHS machine and I have to physically turn it on. Is it possible to remotely turn it on inside or outside my network?
 
Almost all NICs made within the past few years support Wake On LAN (WOL). This site has a program you can use to "wake" your server from another PC. You can also initiate the magic packet from their website but you need to configure your router to forward the port number (7 is the default).
 
I tried the WOL programs that were mentioned and nothing seems to work. I even checked around in the BIOS and activated whatever had to be activated in the properties of the lan card. I'm not sure why it won't work. This is all being done within the network.
 
I wanted to wake the computer up from a state of being completely off. I don't think that is possible with wol.

Why is the computer backing up all the other computers off? Just wondering why it is off in the first place, as that might help.

Everyday I turn it on, do the backup, then turn it back off. Hence, the computer is off 23 out of 24 hours a day. I will turn it on again if I want to stream stuff to my PS3 but that is maybe once or twice a week. However, I wanted to do remote startup so that I do not have to physically start it up. That's all. I never realized something so simple could be so complicated.

To do what you want to do you have to send it a magic packet to wake it up which the PS3 is not capable of doing, you'd have to use a program capable of sending that packet involving another PC. I really don't understand why you turn it off every day though. Servers are meant to stay up 24/7. You sound like you would be better served by an external USB HDD for what you do.

I have a laptop for sending the packet. I built my WHS for redundency and for streaming. Can't do that with a USB HDD.
 
Most modern BIOSes have triggers to start the PC up at a certain time. Maybe you can have it turn on at night to do backups and find some way to have the machine do a shutdown a couple hours later.
