It really, really, really wants you to use the library for everything. Combined with the cluttered, nonsensical menus, I couldnt stand it anymore.
Can't say I've ever had a major problem with video thumbnails. I have a bunch of divx/xvid movies and thumbnails pop in after a second or so when they're first discovered by the library, after that, they're instantaneous. Kind of a moot point for me now though, I'm busy ripping 200 or so DVDs to the WHS box and using My Movies to access them in Media Center. My Movies uses cover art, not thumbnails.

That's exactly what I want. WHS/mediaserver box in the basement/closet with quiet, low power extenders on the TVs.

I have extenders.. they are called modded xboxes (though the HD shortcomings is starting to kill this option).

There are many streaming appliances out there now. Popcornhour seems to be the leader IMO though reports say the music play back functions blow.
Nah, I want the official extenders so I can just have one quiet low power box on the TV...Live TV (HD premiums, etc), recorded TV, photos, videos all accessible from it. Not even a cable/sat box on the TV. I'm even considering one of these hp MediaSmart TVs once the update to make them extenders is released...so I have NO boxes attached to the TV. :D

The Popcorn Hour doesn't support streaming TV, does it?

a bit off-topic but can anyone recommend a 4-bay barebones case like the HP MSS? I've been looking but can't find any. Shuttle doesn't have any.

Probably hard to find something comparable...like RebateMonger said, your best bet is probably an IcyDock enclosure with a regular case. Not nearly the same level of sexiness or compactness.

I think that was a mistake.
You can also check out Cooldrives although I think all of their stuff is external.

And the wait continues .... I have a second 500gb drive sitting there unopened until this bug is resolved. I still wish my WHS would integrate with my MCE HTPC, but I've given up on that after dropping cable and going to Dish, effectively rendering the HTPC useless.
So far, I am very satisfied with WHS, altho it ticks me off that MS own A/V product, Live OneCare, does not work with WHS. I called and canceled my OneCare subscription last night. That was a horrible experience to get to that point, and MS doesn't seem to easily offer an online cancellation option.

No, but calling 1-866-ONECARE does the trick, and it's pretty painless. Option 5 is to cancel.

Updated without a hitch from RC4 :)

If you moved the connector software/restore cd somewhere else, I would restore them to their default locations before installation so your client machines can upgrade their connector software automatically. If the locations do not exist anymore the new software is under WHS folder in the C: drive

Thank god. It only took Microsoft 6 freaking months to fix a data corruption issue.

I do like the new features, but this took entirely too long.

YaY ! Time to pop that second HD into my WHS. Nice thing with HP's version is the included add-ins such as PacketVideo and McAfee trial, so make sure and check them out if you have a need for them.

HP Media Server add-in updates

Unfortunately it was *not* a quick fix, they had some real bad cache manager interaction issues in that driver (AFAIK) that took some serious redesign to fix...
