This is a Rush issue, please help

We got word that one of sites had a computer crash, so we had a spare and were fixing it up while we waited for the old one to be shipped here to get stuff off the HD.

I installed windows and got it running (SP1) downloaded the updates, reader8, officexp, NAV corporate, then restarted. Then windows update ran the SP2 update and installed it.

Now when going to websites, i cant click on some links. The wimdows update icon in the start menu wont work, i have to go to it manually. Even sometimes the IE wont load. Going into device manager and trying to view the properties, it just doesnt do anything, just sits there. Also the Local Area Connection when right clicking My network places, is not there, but the nic is installed and working fine, i am on the net with it.

I uninstalled SP2 and the Local area network connection showed up, but when i right click to go to properties, now that i can see the Local area connection, when i go to properties, it says an unkown error has occured. when i double click nothing happens. Now the IP got reset to DHCP and now now i cant download anything (Firewall rules for ip address)

I dont want to start from scratch again, please help!

The problem is you installed a bunch of stuff before SP2.

If you're missing the network icon, just go to it through Control Panel.

Then microsoft should make it that you cant until you do sp2 from windows update

Yeah I would would say download the offline installer for SP2, wipe the drive, reinstall XP and install SP2 first thing after logging in. I wouldn't even connect a network cable to it until you have SP2, Windows Defender, and antivirus installed.

Or, save some time and get AutoStreamer, and make yourself a new XP SP2 disc. This way, when you do a fresh install, SP2 is already there.
