Windows explorer shows 100GB used, Windirstat shows 70??

For some reason windows explorer is saying I'm using 100GB, but when I try to use Windirstat to see what's taking so much space, it only totals to 70GB. I just got this computer thats why 100GB seems like a lot to me. I mean I did copy my music library over, but thats the only thing I even copied yet, everything else is still on an external drive.

You must be miscounting or reading incorrect figures.

Post screenshots of both programs open on your computer.

I'm just guessing here but is it possible Windirstat is not displaying space reserved for the Recycle Bin/System Restore/Pagefile/Shadow Copies etc.?

Yeah Im guessing its the Shadow Copies, I had big installers that I deleted, they're prob still there. Btw how do you turn off that feature?

But actually pagefile shows up, it shows pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys. And theres nothing in the recycle bin anyway.

So what if the prorgam is not hiding those files? I dont think it is.

Some analysis software considers NTFS overhead such as MFT files, metadata files, and the MFT Reserved Zone. The default for the latter is 12.5% of the drive's free space. Windows does not show this.

THE MFT Zone is changed as you fill the disk up, but it shows as "used" space to some analytics.

Yup, it was the Shadow Copies. I deleted them and now it says 67 used and 164 free. Cleared up 33GB, damn!

did u actually need the space...
redundancy and versioning are more useful if something goes wrong than space you didn't need in the first place

Thats kinda true but when something did go wrong, it didnt help. I deleted some music cuz I thought it was copied to my itunes but it wasnt.
But yeah I dont know how much space I need, I might enable it again but it was just alarming to see 100GB used already lol. Is there anyway to delete only some shadow copies? Cuz some days I know I'll have a huge installer that I dont want a shadow copy of.
