so im pretty sure its a corupt portion of my hard drive is there a way to fix it? whenever i try to go into it or open something from it it will crash. i know i have a bunch of spyware that ive been trying to get rid of but i dont think thats whats effecting it. i dont rly know what else to say is there a way to get around it? will it spread on my computer?

Well, you know it maybe because of a Spyware. Scan your disk with a anti-spyware program and make sure your browser is not hijacked and check the windows startup entries for suspicous programs (Run>msconfig). Some spywares cannot be removed automatically so you should manually remove them - google it for more information. Try scanning the disk from other computer aswell.

And if you are sure it is a corrupt disk then it may be because of Bad Sectors, there is a program called HDD regenerator that repairs bad sectors including physical disk damage, use this as a last resort as the scanning speed is very slow.

solution found:

xfire was causing the error

2 ppl had the same problem

EDIT: i spoke to soon i think

EDIT2: If you have a .avi video file on your computer and you click once on it just to highlight it, it may crash Windows Explorer. It's happened to me but there is a fix for it. Go to Windows/System32 folder and find a file called "xfcodec.dll" and change the name of it to something like "xfcodec.dll.old" and the problem with the video files will be gone

there fixed now hopefully.
thanks for your help though Aberforth
