Windows Error Codes.... Need help identifying the problem...

Hello,

I have Windows XP Professional installed and this error continually shows up in my "Event Viewer"... well actually these three... the three of them happen in about a 30 second timeframe, and it usually leads to a freeze. From what i gather the bios is reading from an illegal memory module...

Here are the three error codes in question:

1)
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0xcfc), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

2)
AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0xcf8), which lies in the 0xcf8 - 0xcff protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

3)
Error code 100000ea, parameter1 81561da8, parameter2 8169e970, parameter3 8175b0a8, parameter4 00000001.

Now from what i can tell, this error is due to the bios reading and writing to an area of RAM... ? If this is the case, do i need to replace my ram? Or is it that my actual bios chip is fried...

Any help and any suggestions on fixing this would be great... Microsoft's site wasn't very helpful and i've rebooted about 4 times today... 🙁

Thanks for your time

Pretty common under XP, the OS is flagging some memory reads/writes it sees from the bios for things it hasn't virtualized. The 'right' fix is an updated bios that addresses the problem. If one isn't available, I think your only option is to ignore it. I have this on two systems where I can't get updated bios's and I can't match that up with any real system instability (it's more of a warning that the system COULD be unstable, not that it is).

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate... I'm going to check out my mobo maker's web site right now... It didn't even occur to me to check for bios updates... Thanks for your help...

However...

My system appears to BE unstable, due to the frequent freezes.... As i had said, the first two errors are warnings... but the third one is when the system freezes and blue screens... Hopefully a bios update will fix this problem... Thanks again for your help...
