Windows Easy Transfer Issues

GasX

Lifer
I have spent several hours now trying to get this stupid program to work, but it is either a piece of crap or there is som other problem at play here.

I am trying to transfer from a Windows XP SP2 laptop to a new 32 bit Vista laptop. I start the program on the XP laptop and then plug in the cable to start the software on the Vista box and start the transfer. I then tell it to transfer everything for the current user and it starts. After a couple of minutes, the progress bar on the XP box is about 1/6 accross and the status bar on the Vista box is at 1 bar. At this point the cable disconnected icon starts blinking and it is game over. This happens 100% of the time.

Am I doing something wrong or should I just call a priest and have him perform an exorcism on the old laptop and hope that helps?

This last time it actually gave an error stating that "Semaphore Timeout Period Has Expired". I assume it relates to the fact it thinks the cable is unplugged

Anything that may allow either computer to go into standby mode or lower power mode might need to be looked at, it could be something as simple as one of the network cards shutting down to save power which will obviously disrupt the transfer process.

Easy Transfer works best archiving individual profiles such as voice recognition database or handwriting recognition built and refined over time and invaluable for both archive backups and transfering such heavily time-invested databases to other user's Vista computer or setting up new computer.

That's the true power and functionality Easy Transfer provides but was buried in promotion of a user's upgrade from XP seem made simpler. A silly and misdirection of actually complex tool once looking beyond obvious uses not worth bothering. A voice rec backup is created by tediously unchecking all the other boxes except those. The archive is just several MB in size but takes long time creating. Restoring such archive takes seconds just double-clicking to self-install.

Voice recognition users will appreciate how incredibly valuable having whole trained database built from countless hours so easily restored as needed. When voice recognition corrupts and stops working, recent and frequent Easy Transfer backup archives save sanity and replace database back to working state effortlessly within minutes. Now seeing the power within, Easy Transfer transforms from silly interface glossing over an amazing productivity tool customizable for precise needs archiving individual databases freely moved over to new hardware, distributable among groups or simply backups redefined from all-or-nothing hulks to macro-level precision focused repair tools with unlimited selections. User databases in Vista segment into units backup from one to many.

My trained handwriting recognition user database developed over many months transferred to two other tablets seamlessly via Easy Transfer. The backup file being just 5MB compressed, gets regularly updated and deployed across three tablets. Just that one database module, nothing else affected.

Easy Transfer grossly mis-targeted for wrong features and made virtually invisible. The customizable backup feature buried totally within.
