When I go into control panel > system properties, my computer shows that I have 511 MB ram, when I have 512 MB ram. Any idea why Windows is doing that and how I can fix it? I know it's overkill, but it bugs me nonetheless. Thanks.

are you sure you have 512? don't forget the whole 1024 = 1MB base2 and 1000 = 1MB base 10 thingy;

That's cause Windows won't use 512MB of RAM, so it reduces it to 511.

:D j/k

Not sure, but it's probably Windows not quite rounding the count up to the next MB figure before displaying that number.

Win9x can't manage more than 512Mb RAM, maybe that last megabyte on that number is exclusive? :) BTW with that kind of amount of RAM windows shouldn't be able to use swap. Set swap size to constant 256Mb and see whereas you get "out of memory" error during startup or windows shows having only 256Mb RAM :)

Nope.

The reason I'm kinda worried is that just 2 days ago it showed 512. Yes, this is silly since I have no need for that, but humor me anyway.

I didn't install anything major at all.

That's the first thing I thought when I first read this thread, but in his system rig, he's running an Athlon not to mention a GeForce2...

Maybe Whitewolf stole one from you...:p
